Goldie London Brand Profile at Spoiled Brat
Interview with Michelle Goldie
Spoiled Brat have been a stockist of this exciting brand for years now.
Goldie London has always stood out for us, as an edgy, fashion forward, reasonably priced collection of womens clothing.
Young and fresh, with a flirty rock-chic aesthetic, Goldie London has fast been grabbing attention and fashion-forward fans since its creation in 2006. Created by Michelle Goldie, the brand is defined by her instinctive sense of style, playfulness and touch of glamour. Think super-wearable and definitely trend-led, so that’s zip back bodycons dresses, printed blouses and skater dresses.
From its humble beginnings in London’s famous Portobello and Spitalfields markets to High-street department stores and boutiques around the world, Goldie London has soared onto the radar of the fashion elite, capturing the hearts of woman looking for that perfect item to make their own.
“Edgy and incredibly easy-to-wear”
is how Michelle describes her natural cool-girl designs, while keeping constant emphasis on quality at a reasonable price. With a growing legion of trend icons, celebs and fashion magazines singing the praises of this East London label, the trajectory of Goldie London continues to be nothing short of spectacular.
Designer Michelle Goldie started making her own clothing from her mother’s workshop at home from the age of eight. From humble beginnings she bought herself a sewing machine and made and wore her own hand made clothing. In 2006 Michelle started selling at London’s famous Portobello and Spitalfields markets. In 2010 Michelle met then business consultant Gawain Blizzard and together they incorporated Goldie London & created a global growth strategy which has seen the brand globally established and is a true London rags to riches success story.
We asked Michelle some questions, to get to know her & her brand better!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
“Everywhere: Travel, the street, vintage clothing, blogs and I pick up details from everywhere and translate them into my designs.”
What has been your greatest resource?
“Magazines – I rip those poor things to pieces, and the fabric markets in Asia. I feel like a kid in a candy store – you can’t get me out of them”
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
“My business partner and I plan to grow Goldie as an international mega brand. We also plan to start up sister brands, jewellery brand and open up our own stores.”
What makes you stand out from other designers?
“Goldie definitely has a signature look. It’s a brand that gets you noticed. If you wear Goldie you will understand what I’m saying. Whenever I wear the brand, I constantly get people asking where the item I’m wearing is from”
