Made in Britain – Trend of The Week

British-made fashion is back in business
With Mary Portas, traditional brands and new young designers – as well as high-street chains – backing British clothing manufacture, home-grown fashion is back in style

And it also seems this impact, is felt on a worldwide scale also – with UK etailers flying the flag for eCommerce, as Britain is now the World’s second most popular destination for online shoppers according to new research from PayPal

With all this, we felt it would be good to add a “Made in Britain” category to our website ; as not only are we a British website, but also stock countless British Brands

Our top ten British brands are

Bill and Mar Clothing
Bill and Mar Clothing

Bill†Mar was founded in 2010 by designer Rosie Bonnar. The label is named after her beautiful grandparents Bill and Marian.

After being inspired by a year in Sydney where Rosie was surrounded by beautiful scenery, young and creative talent and unmeasurable amounts of positive energy, she came back to London with the motivation to start her own label.

Bill†Mar is there to have fun with. Its mix of fabrics, prints and textures make it stand out, but with the use of simple silhouettes means it is very wearable.

The label’s fashion forward style makes it unique, and an exciting addition to the industry.

Bonnie Bling Jewellery
Bonnie Bling Jewellery

Shortly after beginning the business in February 2011, Bonnie Bling won the prize for best new product in the jewellery category at their first ever Scotland’s Trade Show.

The brand has grown quickly and collaborated with other Scottish designers including Obscure Couture, RAKSA, Emily Moir, Neil Slorance and Jenivieve Berlin Millinery.

The company have created custom pieces for various customers including the Riverside Transport Museum, Caithness Horizons, Mary at House of Fraser and the X Factor.

The micro manufacturing base is set on the Isle of Bute on Scotland’s West Coast, creating local jobs in a rural economy, and utilising the company’s very own laser cutting machine that was crowd funded, via Bloom VC, from over 100 supporters in 2012.

Crown and Glory
Crown and Glory

In early 2011, Sophie King had a problem. Floating in her mind was the image of the perfect hair accessory: delicate feathers, hand painted to form a single butterfly. Why was this a problem? Because such a thing just didn’t exist! Well, they say that if you want a job done well you should do it yourself, and that’s exactly what Sophie did. As a recent Photographic Art graduate she had the artistic eye, and she soon learned the skills she’d need to make her perfect hair accessory.

The result of that first spontaneous project was Crown and Glory, which in the time since since the first collection of assorted, hand painted butterfly pieces hit the internet has expanded into a shop that houses several different collections, each retaining that original joy of expression. From larger pieces like floral garlands and velvet and suede turbans, down to far smaller pieces such as hand-drawn acrylic bobby pin sets, each collection has running through it the thread of whimsicality and frivolity that has made Crown and Glory so special.

Miss Francessca Couture
Miss Francessca Couture

It was always a dream of hers to become a Fashion Designer, and since graduating from Liverpool John Moores University in 2008 with a BA Hons in Fashion Design, it is safe to say this dream has been realised. Only happy when creating clothes, Francesca decided that no other job would do, and Miss Francesca Couture was born.

From humble beginnings, sewing in a small office in her dad’s building yard back in 2009, word quickly spread of Francesca’s unique and beautiful designs. Before long, she had secured a loyal following from many of Liverpool’s most stylish fashionistas, and the hype continued. Francesca decided to showcase her first collection in October of that year, in a fashion show dedicated to raising funds for The Lily Centre- a local breast cancer charity. The show was a huge success and established Francesca as one of Liverpool’s hottest fashion designers.
Due to the growing demand for her ultra feminine made to measure pieces, it was only a matter of time before she had to move to more established premises. In the summer of 2010, Miss Francesca Couture opened its first store, a chic boutique with a workshop above, providing bespoke and ready-to-wear clothing to the glamourous girls of Liverpool.
Miss Francesca Couture has gone from strength to strength and the label is now a favourite with trend-setting fashionistas all over the UK, and has become popular with style icons and celebrities wanting the WOW factor. Feminine & flirty, floaty, frivolous & fun is how she describes the signature look of Miss Francesca Couture, with quality being paramount, and offered through beautiful detailing, extreme silhouettes, and luxurious fabrics.
